
NIPGEN, Ohio — Emergency crews are currently on the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 772 and Potts Hill Road in Ross County that has left several people injured and a local landmark damaged.
The crash was reported early Thursday afternoon in the village of Nipgen. According to preliminary reports, the impact was severe enough to send one of the involved vehicles careening off the roadway and into the Nipgen United Methodist Church, which sits at the corner of the intersection.
Critical Injuries Reported
First responders arriving at the scene immediately requested a medical helicopter for at least one victim who is reported to be in serious condition. Several other individuals involved in the wreck are being treated for various injuries by ground EMS units.
Roadway Closure
The intersection of SR-772 and Potts Hill Road has been completely shut down to allow for the landing of the CareFlight or MedFlight aircraft and to give investigators space to document the scene.
Multiple agencies are currently assisting, including:
- Ross County Sheriff’s Office
- Bainbridge/Paoli Area Fire and EMS
- Ohio State Highway Patrol
Church Damage
The extent of the structural damage to the Nipgen United Methodist Church is currently being assessed. Witnesses at the scene described significant damage to the exterior where the vehicle made impact.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as the roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours while the wreckage is cleared and the Highway Patrol conducts a crash reconstruction.
