West Portsmouth, OH – Scioto County authorities are investigating a strange and unsettling break-in at the Dollar General on Brouse Run after a partially clothed suspect shattered the store’s front door and made off with an unusual selection of stolen items.

Sheriff David Thoroughman confirmed that the Scioto County 911 Communication Center received a call at 6:59 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from a store employee reporting a burglary at the Dollar General located at 16 Brouse Run.

Deputies and detectives arrived on scene to find the store’s front glass door had been smashed. They also discovered a trail of blood and women’s underwear, including panties and bras, leading away from the business and toward the roadway.

Surveillance footage revealed a suspect wearing what appeared to be only white underwear or panties and a cape, with no shoes or other clothing. The footage shows the man breaking the glass door, entering the store, and heading directly to the women’s clothing aisle. He gathered several packs of lingerie before fleeing the scene on foot—leaving behind a literal trail of stolen garments.

Authorities collected physical evidence from the scene, which has been sent for testing. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

“If anyone has information on the identity of this individual, please contact Detective Sgt. Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091,” said Sheriff Thoroughman.
