ASHVILLE, Ohio — The Village of Ashville has canceled its upcoming Planning and Zoning Commission meetings scheduled for December 16, amid growing opposition surrounding a proposed data center development and related annexation issues.

This week, the Mayor submitted his resignation, and several council members have also resigned.

According to village officials, the 6:00 p.m. public hearing and the 6:30 p.m. regular Planning and Zoning meeting have both been canceled after the rezoning application tied to the proposed project was withdrawn.

The decision follows weeks of public concern and governmental pushback related to the large-scale data center proposal, which would have required rezoning of property and annexation from Harrison Township into the Village of Ashville.

Earlier this month, the Harrison Township Board of Trustees formally objected to the proposed annexation, citing provisions within the Cooperative Economic Development Agreement (CEDA) between the township and the village. Township leaders initiated the mediation process outlined in the agreement, stating that annexation procedures were not being properly followed.

Public opposition has also been voiced by residents concerned about infrastructure strain, land use changes, and long-term impacts of a major data center development in the area.

With the rezoning application now withdrawn, village officials say no further action will be taken at this time. Any future proposals would be required to restart the public review process.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring Village of Ashville communications for updates regarding future planning and zoning matters.
