Armed Burglary and Stolen Vehicle Highlight Violent Saturday in Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe Police were stretched thin across the city on Saturday, March 21, as a wave of serious crimes—including an armed burglary and a motor vehicle theft—pushed incident numbers higher than usual for a weekend.

The 17-call report, released this morning, details a 24-hour period defined by high-stakes encounters and ongoing criminal investigations.


Serious Crimes: Armed Burglary & Car Theft

The most alarming incident occurred early Saturday morning at 5:12 AM. An officer stationed near Watt Street and Washington Avenue was approached by a woman reporting an Aggravated Burglary on King Street. According to the report, the suspect was armed with a deadly weapon.

The property crimes didn’t stop there:

  • Motor Vehicle Theft: At 4:57 PM, officers were dispatched to South Hickory Street after a resident reported their vehicle had been stolen.
  • South Watt Street Burglary: Later in the evening at 8:52 PM, another burglary was reported on South Watt Street.
  • Criminal Mischief: Police also responded to South Brownell Street at 12:29 PM for a burglary-related complaint involving criminal mischief.

Drugs and Disorderly Conduct

Public parks and residential streets saw several disturbances throughout the day:

  • Poland Park Drug Discovery: During a welfare check at Poland Park (S. Hickory and Burbridge St.) at 5:12 PM, officers discovered Schedule III, IV, or V drugs. The investigation is currently pending.
  • Walmart Theft & Paraphernalia: A theft call at Walmart on Trego Creek Road at 7:50 PM led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a warrant arrest.
  • Domestic Dispute: Early in the morning (3:37 AM), units responded to a possible domestic incident on South Douglas Avenue.

Warrant Arrests and Traffic Incidents

Officers successfully cleared several warrants off the books on Saturday:

  • Steven Laplante was located and arrested on North McArthur Street at 1:51 AM.
  • Another warrant arrest was made shortly after on North Paint Street.

On the roads, a “Hit-Skip” (Hit and Run) was reported at 9:42 PM in the parking lot behind Tiffin Towers on South Walnut Street. Additionally, a crash was reported on Piatt Avenue involving a failure to yield when turning left.
