CHILLICOTHE, OH — After nearly two decades of transformational leadership, Jeff Graham, president and CEO of Adena Health, has announced his retirement, effective September 30, 2025. The Adena Health Board of Trustees has unanimously appointed Katherine “Kathi” Edrington, current Chief Operating Officer, as the organization’s next president and CEO, effective October 1, 2025.

Graham, a Portsmouth native, began his journey with Adena in 1999 and was appointed CEO in 2017. Under his leadership, Adena Health experienced expansive growth, doubling in size and strengthening its regional footprint across nine counties. Notable accomplishments during his tenure include:

  • Expanding the Adena Medical Group into a multi-specialty network with over 30 specialties.
  • Leading the acquisition of Adena Fayette Medical Center and the development of new facilities like the Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute.
  • Spearheading the creation of the Ohio High Value Network, a collaborative effort among more than two dozen rural hospitals statewide.
  • Forging strong clinical and community partnerships to improve local health outcomes.

“Thanks to Jeff’s unwavering leadership, Adena Health is stronger than ever,” said Steve Hirsch, chair of the Board of Trustees. “He’s played a crucial role in expanding access to care and ensuring that high-quality health services remain close to home for our communities.”

Graham’s successor, Kathi Edrington, was chosen after a national search process. With a background in nursing and over eight years of leadership at Adena, Edrington has led significant operational improvements, including the system-wide implementation of a unified electronic medical record system and enhancements to the organization’s nursing program and workforce strategies.

“Kathi brings determination, compassion, and a deep-rooted understanding of what it means to serve with purpose,” said Board Member Bill Knoles. “She’s helped improve patient outcomes and efficiency while strengthening Adena’s financial health.”

Edrington, who relocated to Chillicothe with her family to join the Adena team, said she is honored to take on the role and excited for the future.

“This is an exciting new chapter for Adena Health,” said Hirsch. “We remain committed to excellence and are confident in Kathi’s vision and ability to lead us forward.”
