GROVE CITY, Ohio — Police are investigating a major retail theft after a group of 15 to 20 juveniles allegedly stole more than $4,500 worth of merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods on Stringtown Road Thursday night.
According to the Grove City Police Department, officers were dispatched to the store at 1656 Stringtown Road around 7:26 p.m. on August 27 following a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.
Store employees told responding officers that a large group of teenagers entered the store and took items totaling $4,552.04 before leaving. Staff reported they believed the juveniles involved were players for the Glenville High School football team, based out of Cleveland.
Investigating officers subsequently contacted Glenville coaching staff staying at a nearby hotel. Authorities said the coaches fully cooperated with the investigation, and a portion of the stolen property was recovered and returned to the store.
The Grove City Police Department stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. No formal charges have been announced at this time.
