LANCASTER, Ohio — A search for a missing elderly woman ended in tragedy Friday morning after authorities recovered her body from the Hocking River.
Donna Granados, 77, who had previously been reported missing, was discovered deceased following a coordinated recovery effort by local first responders.
Items Found Near River Led to Search
The recovery operation began after investigators discovered personal items along the riverbank that were believed to belong to Granados.
In response to the discovery, members of the Lancaster Police Department’s Detective Bureau and the Fairfield County Dive Team deployed to the area to conduct a targeted search of the water.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., search teams located Granados’ body in the river near Goodwin Avenue. The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office was immediately called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Active Investigation Ongoing
While the discovery brings a somber end to the search, the Lancaster Police Department emphasized that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death remains highly active.
Authorities noted that residents should expect to see a larger-than-normal police presence near Goodwin Avenue until follow-up investigative efforts are complete. However, officials stressed that there is no known danger to the public.
