CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe police officers handled an active slate of calls on Thursday, July 2, 2026, dealing with a major bomb threat scare, a vehicle tow, a parking lot assault response, and various local theft reports.

Bomb Threat Sparks Investigation on North Bridge Street

  • Inducing Panic Call: At 1:47 p.m., a major police response converged on the 800 block of N. Bridge Street following reports of a bomb threat. Officers thoroughly searched the area and discovered no explosive devices on site. The incident has been classified under inducing panic, and an investigation into the origin of the false threat remains active.

Assaults, Threats, and Trespassing

  • Planet Fitness Emergency Calls: The North Bridge Street Planet Fitness location drew police twice on Thursday. First, at 1:19 a.m., officers were dispatched to the gym’s parking lot regarding a victim who fled there after being assaulted at a separate location. Later in the morning, at 11:10 a.m., police returned to the business to handle a criminal trespass complaint involving an individual who recklessly refused to leave the property.
  • Thrift Store Threats: At 4:12 p.m., police responded to the Ohio Thrift store at 134 Consumer Center Drive following a disorderly conduct complaint involving threats and fighting.
  • Vandalism and Domestic Disputes: Incidents of domestic disputes and disorderly behavior kept units moving on N. High Street (1:21 a.m.), Yoctangee Parkway (11:03 a.m.), Western Avenue (11:36 a.m.), and E. 5th Street (10:03 p.m.), the latter involving a warrant check. A property vandalism complaint was also filed on Church Street at 7:09 p.m.

Shoplifting, Towing, and Traffic Enforcement

  • Walmart Shoplifting: Officers were dispatched to the River Trace Lane Walmart at 6:37 p.m. regarding a shoplifting theft by deception incident.
  • Orange Street Theft & Tow: Police logged a theft complaint in the 700 block of Orange Street at 7:59 a.m. Later in the afternoon, at 12:45 p.m., an officer checking the 600 block of Orange Street located a vehicle parked where signs prohibit parking. A records check revealed the vehicle’s registration had been expired since 2022. It was cited and subsequently towed from the scene.
  • Unlicensed Driver: A traffic stop conducted on E. Main Street at 4:54 p.m. resulted in a formal citation being issued after the driver was found to be operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

False Alarm Note

  • Olive Garden Mix-Up: Police initially logged a report on Western Avenue at 7:02 p.m. that was quickly determined to have been issued in error. A missing phone that was feared stolen was found safe inside the local Olive Garden restaurant.
