CHILLICOTHE, OH — A local woman was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following a tense standoff with law enforcement at the Executive Inn on North Bridge Street.
Officers were dispatched to the motel at 24 N. Bridge St. around 2:00 PM on May 13 after management reported a trespassing issue. According to police reports, an employee, Jay Patel, informed authorities that a guest in Room 55 had failed to vacate the premises by the 11:00 AM checkout time. Efforts to charge the guest’s card for an additional night were unsuccessful, and the individual reportedly refused to leave the room.
A Difficult Encounter
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Shane Daubenmire and motel staff attempted to make contact with the guest, identified as Virginia May. When the door was opened, officers encountered May inside the room.
The situation became complicated as May reportedly refused to comply with basic police commands. According to the narrative, May was not fully clothed when officers arrived and repeatedly ignored requests to dress herself so the investigation could proceed. Despite multiple warnings and being provided with a shirt by officers, May allegedly:

- Refused to vacate the room after the checkout deadline.
- Repeatedly claimed she was dressed while remaining unclothed.
- Attempted to argue with officers rather than comply with orders.
Arrest and Charges
After several failed attempts to resolve the situation through verbal commands, officers moved to place May under arrest. Police report that she continued to hinder their official duties and resisted being escorted to the patrol vehicle by pulling away and tensing up.
Virginia May has been charged with:
- Obstructing Official Business
- Criminal Trespassing
May was transported to the Ross County Jail (RCJ), where she was held in lieu of bond. She was scheduled to appear in court on the morning of May 14 at 9:00 AM.
The Chillicothe Police Department has stated that the investigation is currently closed.
