MUHLENBERG TOWNSHIP — A Pickaway County family is reeling after an aggressive structure fire tore through their home on Wednesday evening, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 7200 block of Brooks Miller Road around 6:00 p.m. on April 15, 2026. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and visible flames were already pouring from the residence.

A Multi-Level Blaze

As crews entered the structure, they discovered the fire had already burrowed deep into the home, with active flames found on both the first floor and in the basement. Despite a rapid internal attack to bring the blaze under control, the structural damage was catastrophic.

Neighbors told Scioto Post that they spotted the smoke and called 911 immediately. In a heroic act of community spirit, some neighbors even attempted to enter the burning building before the fire department arrived to ensure no one was trapped inside.

A Family Displaced

The timing of the fire was a bittersweet stroke of luck; the family—including young children—was reportedly at a local park when the blaze began. They returned home to find fire engines in their driveway and their belongings destroyed.

Investigators have pointed to an electrical issue as the likely cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide immediate emergency shelter and resources for the couple and their “babies.” However, the road to recovery remains long as the family looks to replace basic essentials.

Community Support: How to Help

A verified GoFundMe has been established by a family member to help the young family rebuild from scratch. The fire claimed everything from furniture to the children’s clothing and toys.

“My uncle, aunt, and their babies experienced something no family should ever have to go through,” the fundraiser states. “They returned to find the fire department at their house, but by then, the flames had already taken everything. Right now, they are facing the overwhelming task of starting over from scratch.”

The family is currently seeking donations to help secure food, supplies for the infants, and eventually, a new place to live.
