THORNVILLE, Ohio — A 34-year-old man is behind bars following a domestic-related shooting Thursday evening in the Fairfield Beach area that left his wife wounded in the front yard of their home.

Fairfield County Sheriff Alex Lape confirmed Friday that Danny J. Mosley was taken into custody without incident at the scene. He is currently being held at the Fairfield County Jail on an initial charge of Weapons Under Disability, with more serious charges likely pending.

Response to Hawthorn Road

The violence broke out around 6:07 p.m. on April 9, 2026. Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting that a man had shot his wife in the 13000 block of Hawthorn Road.

Fairfield County deputies and officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) arrived to find an adult woman in the front yard suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders rendered immediate aid, and the victim was rushed to a local hospital. Fortunately, her injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.

Investigation and Charges

While Mosley was booked on the weapons charge—which typically indicates a person is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm—Sheriff Lape noted that the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office is actively reviewing the case to determine additional felony charges.

Detectives remained at the residence late into the night Thursday to process the scene and collect evidence.

A Message from the Sheriff

In a statement released Friday, Sheriff Lape praised the swift coordination between his deputies and ODNR partners.

“I want to thank our community for their cooperation and reassure residents that there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” Lape said. “We remain committed to protecting our community and pursuing justice.”

The shooting remains under active investigation. Authorities have not yet released the specific motive behind the incident.
