Late-Night Shooting and Multiple Trespassing Calls Mark Busy Wednesday for Chillicothe Police

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department was kept on the move Wednesday, April 8, managing a series of calls that ranged from routine traffic stops to a late-night report of shots fired into a home.

Late-Night Violence and Disturbance

The most serious incident of the night occurred at 10:28 PM, when officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Fleet Street following reports of a shooting. The initial investigation focuses on the “improper discharge of a firearm into a habitation or school.” No injuries were immediately reported, and detectives are continuing to investigate the scene.

Earlier in the evening, at 9:17 PM, units responded to an active domestic dispute on Vine Street, which was classified as disorderly conduct. The day ended with another disorderly conduct call on W. 5th Street just before midnight involving fighting or threatening behavior.

Juvenile Issues and Unruly Conduct

Police dealt with several incidents involving local youth throughout the day:

  • Runaway Reported: At 12:24 PM, officers were flagged down regarding a runaway juvenile from the area of Enderlin Circle (Chillicothe Parks and Recreation).
  • School Zone Yelling: At 3:59 PM, a patrolling officer reported hearing yelling coming from a blue SUV near Chillicothe Intermediate School.
  • Kohl’s Disorderly: Just after 6:30 PM, police were called to the Kohl’s on River Trace Lane in reference to disorderly juveniles. Investigations into all three incidents are pending.

Trespassing and Theft

Multiple businesses reported trespassing issues on Wednesday:

  • Officers were dispatched to the Pilot Gas Station on E. Main Street at 8:02 AM and to Certified Oil on N. Bridge Street at 10:24 AM. The latter involved a reported protection order violation.
  • Suspicious persons were also reported on W. 5th Street and E. 7th Street (Chillicothe Transit).
  • In a delayed report, Coppel Coal and Supply on S. Paint Street contacted officers regarding a theft that allegedly occurred back in February.

Warrant and Traffic Enforcement

At approximately 2:55 PM, officers served a Capias warrant to Mandy Hammond at the Ross County Jail. Hammond was wanted for a probation violation stemming from an original theft charge and is being held in lieu of bond.

On the roadways, officers focused on safety compliance:

  • Yoctangee Parkway: A driver was stopped for failing to obey traffic control devices.
  • E. Water Street: A traffic stop was conducted at 8:35 AM for driving while texting.
  • Eastern Ave: Just after 2:00 AM, CPD assisted the State Highway Patrol with an intoxicated individual creating a risk of harm during a traffic stop.

Community Note: A wallet found at the River Trace Lane Walmart was turned in to the department on Wednesday morning. The owner may contact the CPD to claim it.
