CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A local pillar of the Chillicothe business community is preparing to hang up its tool belt. Central Center Hardware, a staple for local DIYers and contractors since the Carter administration, has announced it will officially close its doors on April 10, 2026.

The announcement, shared by owner Mark Weisenberger, marks the end of nearly five decades of service at the Central Center shopping hardware hub.

A Half-Century of Service

Founded in 1977, the store has outlasted many big-box competitors by leaning into a “customer service first” philosophy. For Weisenberger, the closure is deeply personal; he has spent the last 25 years at the store, rising through the ranks from employee to owner.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure,” Weisenberger stated in a letter to the community. “Thank you for letting us be a part of your homes, your projects, and your lives for so many years.”

Navigating a Tough Retail Landscape

The decision to close comes as small, independent hardware stores face increasing pressure from e-commerce giants and shifting retail trends. Weisenberger noted that “navigating the recent retail landscape has presented significant challenges,” leading to the difficult choice to shutter the business.

Final Days and Farewell

The store will remain open during regular business hours until the April 10 deadline. Customers are encouraged to stop in to:

  • Final Sales: Purchase remaining supplies and inventory at discounted rates.
  • Share Memories: Exchange stories with the staff who have anchored the store for decades.
  • Say Goodbye: Offer a proper send-off to one of Chillicothe’s longest-running independent retailers.

“All good things must come to an end,” Weisenberger concluded, “but we are so grateful to have shared this one with you.”
