WAVERLY, Ohio — Waverly Police Chief John Winfield confirmed that officers responded to a call on Saturday, February 28, 2026, regarding a deceased male found behind a property at 404 7th Street, over an embankment.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed the individual was deceased. The Pike County Coroner responded to the scene, and the body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, which was completed on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The deceased has been positively identified as Ryan Wurtzel. Authorities have not yet released the cause or manner of death.
Police say the incident remains under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
