Ross County Sheriff Seeks Public’s Help in Fatal Hit-and-Run That Killed Man in His Yard

ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they continue investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Ross County man over the weekend.

According to a news release from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Joshua R. Hopkins was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle that left the roadway and entered his yard in the 5800 block of Denver Road.

The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m. Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a truck, but the driver fled the scene after the crash.

Sheriff George W. Lavender Jr. said his office is actively seeking information and urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has details about the vehicle or driver to come forward.

“This is a tragic case that has left a family grieving and a community searching for answers,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.
