Ronald Rex (Ronnie) Sowers, 86, of Amanda, Ohio, passed away on December 18, 2025, at HCA Florida Highlands hospital, in Sebring, Florida.
Ronnie grew up on the farm and was a graduate of Stoutsville High School in 1957. He entered the firefighting profession in Tarlton, in 1963; transferring in 1966 to the Circleville Fire Department. He went from a Lieutenant in 1970, to Assistant Chief in 76 and then Chief in 1979. He retired from the Fire Department in 1990. He had also worked at A&P grocery in Circleville, served as President of the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association for a time, and as Clearcreek Township clerk.
Ronnie and Irene had been married 44 years when she passed in the year 2000, after which he often spent his winter months in Florida, visiting with good friend and companion Marion Farezoco, who resides in Sebring.
Ronnie is survived by daughter, Vickie (Steve) Stone of Circleville, and son, Kevin (Tammy) Sowers, also of Amanda. Grandchildren Hillary (Jeff) Bradbury, of Circleville, Travis (Michelle) Stone, of Amanda, Misty Hunter, of Chillicothe, and Chris (Heather) Sowers, of Amanda. Great grandchildren Claire and Jason Bradbury, Breece and Wrigley Stone, Hunter Ditmar, and Mason and Liam Sowers. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Alta Sowers, and wife, Irene Riffle Sowers; brothers, George (Bette) Sowers, of Circleville, and Arnold Sowers of Amanda, and sisters, Freda (Floyd) Campbell, of London, and Mary (Earl) Lutz, of Circleville.
The funeral will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 1pm at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W. Main St, Amanda, OH 43102. The family will receive friends from 11am until the time of the service on Monday. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville.
