LANCASTER — A six-hour standoff ended early Friday morning with the arrest of a Lancaster man who police say fired shots inside his home and in the direction of responding officers.

Lancaster Police were called to 2634 Little Pine Lane around 2:08 a.m. on November 21 after a 911 caller reported gunfire coming from the residence. When officers arrived, they heard additional shots from inside. According to investigators, the suspect appeared to fire toward officers, though police did not return fire.

Officers quickly established a perimeter and requested assistance from the department’s Special Response Team and Hostage Negotiator Team. Negotiations continued for several hours as the suspect remained barricaded inside.

Around 8 a.m., the suspect — identified as 37-year-old Edward Pressley Jr. of Lancaster — surrendered peacefully. Medics transported Pressley to Fairfield Medical Center for treatment related to exposure to chemical gas used during the standoff. He is being charged with first-degree Felonious Assault, with additional charges expected following review by the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public, though officers will remain on scene while evidence is processed.

The Lancaster Police Department thanked the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and Fairfield Medical Center Police for their assistance during the incident.
