Schools across Pickaway County came together this week to honor local veterans and active-duty service members through heartfelt tributes, breakfasts, assemblies, and displays of patriotism.
At Teays Valley High School, the front lawn was transformed into a field of American flags through the Vikings for Veterans initiative. The special flag fundraiser allowed families, staff, and community members to sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran or active-duty service member. Dozens of flags now wave in front of the school as a symbol of gratitude and remembrance.

“We’re thankful for everyone who sponsored a flag and helped us recognize the sacrifices of our local heroes,” the district shared.

The celebration continued across the district, with Teays Valley East Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society hosting a breakfast for veterans, where students invited special guests in their lives to share stories and enjoy a meal together. Ashville Elementary also welcomed veterans for breakfast, featuring student performances of patriotic songs that filled the cafeteria with applause and emotion.

Walnut Elementary held its annual Veterans Day assembly, encouraging students to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white, and blue. On November 11, all Teays Valley schools will continue honoring veterans during Red, White & Blue Day.

Other districts across Pickaway County joined in the tributes. Westfall Middle and High School hosted their Annual Veterans Day Assembly: “A Morning of Honor, A Lifetime of Gratitude.” Veterans were recognized for their service and sacrifice, and students expressed appreciation through music and personal reflections.

At Logan Elm Local Schools, two Veterans Day assemblies were held — one at the Middle and High School campus and another at Logan Elm Elementary. The high school choir and third-grade students performed patriotic songs, including the National Anthem, while students read letters they wrote to veterans in their families and community.

“We are deeply grateful for the veterans in our community and their courage, honor, and service,” Logan Elm officials said.

From classrooms to cafeterias, the message was the same across Pickaway County — a heartfelt thank you to those who served and continue to serve. 🇺🇸
