Chillicothe and Ross County — A painter of old barns is offering his collection of Ross County subjects for sale to benefit Chillicothe’s free art gallery, as well as copies of two of his books – all at the Pump House Center for the Arts.
Robert Kroeger is a repeat visitor to the Pump House, and again told barn stories on Friday evening, November 7th, 2025.

He lives in Cincinnati, but travels the region looking for picturesque old barns. He visits Ross County about once a year, with Pump House director John Payne helping him scout Kroeger’s next subjects.
Almost 20 barn paintings are now hanging at the Pump House (in addition to the current show) available for purchase at $250 to $350, with a percentage of the sale going to the art gallery. Kroeger also donated about 10 copies each of “Round Barns of America” and “Stone Barns of America” for 100% profit to the Pump House.

In addition, a November online auction of a few of the paintings published in the stone barn book will benefit the Pump House. And, his book “Historic Barns of Ohio” from Arcadia Publishing / The History Press is also available.

Kroeger says he is proud to help save barns through his images, pointing out that one Ross County barn he visited last fall is already lost – it collapsed this spring, and the owner is glad it is preserved as a painting. Another barn painting was bought by its owner in the Friday night gathering.
Hear Kroeger explain several of his Ross County paintings and two of his books available at the Pump House in the first video, and see a pan over all the remaining Ross County paintings at the end of the second video (with part of the current Pump House show on the wall behind).
