COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Milvets organization will host one of the state’s largest Veterans Day celebrations this Sunday, November 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) in downtown Columbus. Sponsored by the Franklin County Commissioners and Columbus City Council, the event will feature a full day of activities, exhibits, and entertainment honoring America’s veterans. The formal program will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Now in its second year, the Milvets Veterans Rally replaces the traditional Veterans Day Parade, moving all festivities inside the NVMM facility. Organizers say the rally offers a more personal and interactive experience for veterans, their families, and community members.
“This rally is a way for everyone to come together in appreciation of service,” organizers said. “We’ll celebrate veterans’ contributions, share history, and create a fun, family-friendly environment that honors those who’ve served.”
The free event includes:
- Complimentary lunch inspired by Civil War-era meals
- Free parking and admission to the National Veterans Memorial and Museum
- Information booths with representatives from the VA, Honor Flight, Legal Aid, veterans’ organizations, and military displays
- A veterans ID station
- Family activities including face painting, “make your own dog tag,” horse therapy demonstrations, and a magic show every hour
- Performances by military bands
- A special early visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus — attendees are encouraged to bring a toy donation for local families in need
