ROSS COUNTY — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office reported that an officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday afternoon, October 26, 2025, following a disorderly conduct complaint in the 400 block of State Route 180.

According to Sheriff George W. Lavender Jr., deputies were dispatched around 3:00 p.m. to investigate the complaint. During the course of their investigation, deputies determined there was probable cause to arrest 58-year-old Bryan Rothe for assault.

When deputies attempted to take Rothe into custody, the situation escalated, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI&I) has taken over the investigation, as is standard protocol in such incidents.

Sheriff Lavender said any further inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to BCI&I.
