PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A new sign has been dedicated along the Scenic Scioto Heritage Trail at Earl Thomas Conley Westside Park, paying tribute to the Village of Alexandria, the first town laid out in what is now Scioto County in 1799.
The sign, installed by ETC Park Manager Brian Howard and his team, joins 40 other markers along the 84-mile walking trail, which highlights points of historical and cultural interest throughout the county.
Special recognition was given to the Portsmouth Murals Committee for providing artwork from the Alexandria mural, as well as to students from the Scioto County Career Technical Center, who helped erect and maintain the trail signs. Scioto County Commissioners also supported the project by granting permission for the installations.
“Thanks to the dedication of our park staff, community partners, and students, these signs help preserve and share the rich history of Scioto County with residents and visitors alike,” said ETC Park officials.
