KINGSTON, Ohio – Multiple fire departments rushed to the scene of a large apartment fire in Kingston Monday evening after reports of a person possibly trapped inside.
The fire broke out at an apartment complex around 3:30 pm on Saturday located at 8 Ing Street, quickly spreading through the building and forcing residents in several units to evacuate. Emergency crews immediately cleared multiple apartments, but officials say one unit where the source of the blaze started contained an unconscious man. First firefighters on the scene made entry into the fully involved apartment and found the victim and pulled him out of the fire, but sadly did not recover. One firefighter during the rescue received a burn.
Due to the intensity of the blaze and the chaotic conditions on scene, mutual aid was requested from several surrounding fire departments. Firefighters are continuing suppression efforts while also working to confirm whether anyone remains inside.
