PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio (Sept. 16, 2025) – A Circleville man is facing serious charges after a deadly crash earlier this year left one passenger dead.

Troy Newman appeared in Pickaway County Court this week on charges of vehicular homicide in connection with the January 4, 2024, crash on U.S. Route 22 between Circleville and Lancaster.

According to investigators, Newman was driving a blue Subaru eastbound on U.S. 22 around 2:30 p.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Ringgold Southern Road. Deputies say he pulled into the path of a westbound Ford Super Duty pickup truck, sparking a violent collision.

Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of U.S. 22 after striking a utility box, which knocked out connectivity in the area. Newman was transported to Grant Medical Center with injuries. His passenger, Jeff Moody, was flown by MedFlight in critical condition but later died. The pickup driver suffered only minor injuries.

During the response, first responders reported finding a 9mm firearm on Moody and a baggie of suspected drugs inside the Subaru. Authorities also discovered Moody had an active warrant. The Subaru’s owner told deputies she had purchased the vehicle only days prior and claimed no one had permission to drive it. Investigators also noted the tags on the car were not registered to her.

Newman was found to have a suspended driver’s license. He appeared in court this week and pleaded not Guilty.
