ATHENS, OH – Lieutenant Steven P. Daugherty, Post Commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Athens Post, has graduated from the 295th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The ceremony took place September 4, 2025.

The FBI National Academy is internationally recognized for its rigorous academic program, offering 10 weeks of advanced leadership, communication, and fitness training. Fewer than one percent of law enforcement officers nationwide are selected to attend, making the achievement a distinguished milestone in Lieutenant Daugherty’s career.

This session included 254 law enforcement professionals representing 49 states, the District of Columbia, 20 foreign countries, six military organizations, and four federal civilian agencies.

“The Ohio State Highway Patrol is proud of Lieutenant Daugherty’s accomplishment,” said Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol Superintendent. “His selection to and graduation from the FBI National Academy is a testament to his dedication and leadership.”

Lieutenant Daugherty began his career with the Highway Patrol in 2003 as a member of the 141st Academy Class. He has since served at multiple posts across southern Ohio, including Athens, Chillicothe, and Jackson. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2020 and has led the Athens Post since August 2021.

Graduates of the National Academy often return to their agencies to take on higher-level leadership roles, applying their advanced training to improve operations and strengthen community safety.
