Circleville, OH — Pickaway County is preparing to join the nation in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The Pickaway County Visitors Bureau, in partnership with Circleville Mayor Michelle Blanton, has launched local efforts to honor the milestone with events that highlight both the county’s history and its role in the nation’s story.
Planning meetings are already underway, bringing together leaders from county and city government, the Village of Williamsport, local historical organizations, nonprofits, and community groups. The America 250 Pickaway County Committee is working to weave the anniversary theme into existing events while also encouraging new programs that showcase the county’s unique heritage.
“Circleville is proud to be part of this historic milestone as we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary,” Mayor Blanton said. “This is more than a national birthday — it’s a chance for our community to reflect on the values we hold dear and the unique role Pickaway County has played in shaping our nation’s story.”
Elizabeth Furniss, Executive Director of the Pickaway County Visitors Bureau, encouraged residents and organizations to get involved. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell Pickaway County’s story and celebrate how our local history connects to the founding and growth of our nation,” she said.
The America-250 Ohio Community program is supporting efforts across all 88 counties to prepare for the anniversary. Taylore Tomu, community engagement and outreach specialist with America 250-Ohio, welcomed Pickaway County as an official partner. “The Commission is excited to work with Circleville and Williamsport to make the America-250 commemoration memorable,” Tomu said.
The Visitors Bureau will maintain a dedicated online calendar of America 250 events at Pickaway.com, where community members can submit event details by emailing [email protected].
