OhioHealth Berger Hospital Closed Until Further Notice After Smoke Incident

CIRCLEVILLE, OH – OhioHealth Berger Hospital was evacuated and remains temporarily closed as of 5:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, following an incident involving an overheating pump that released smoke through the ventilation system, according to an update released at 5:38 p.m. EDT. No fire was reported, but the hospital is undergoing cleaning and restoration efforts, with no set reopening date.

Patients with scheduled appointments will be contacted via phone or MyChart to reschedule. The hospital expressed gratitude to emergency responders, staff, and the community for their patience and collaboration during the incident.

During the incident, several departments came together and evacuated a majority of the Hospital. Critical and unstable persons were transported by ambulance to other hospitals. Other, more stable patients were temporarily transported to Circleville High School, where nursing staff took care of their needs. 55 People were able to be discharged and went home.
