CIRCLEVILLE, OH — The Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities (PCBDD) is once again partnering with iCan Shine to host its beloved iCan Swim Camp this summer — and they’re calling on the community for help.
The camp will take place Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8 at the Pickaway County YMCA, offering children, teens, and adults with disabilities the opportunity to build confidence and learn essential water safety and swimming skills in a supportive environment.

While all camper spots have already been filled by excited participants, the success of the program now depends on volunteer support.
Each swimmer is paired one-on-one with a volunteer “swim buddy” for their session. Organizers say this not only helps swimmers feel more comfortable and supported, but also creates meaningful relationships throughout the week.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and are encouraged to commit to the same time slot each day to build trust with their assigned swimmer. All volunteers are provided lunch daily and must attend a mandatory training session on Sunday, August 3 at the YMCA prior to the start of camp.
Session times for the week are as follows:
9:00–9:45 a.m. (Ages 3–7)
10:15–11:00 a.m. (Ages 3–7)
11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (Ages 8–12)
12:30–1:30 p.m. – Lunch for volunteers
1:45–2:45 p.m. (Ages 8–12)
3:15–4:15 p.m. (Ages 13 and older)
“This camp is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved,” said organizers. “But without enough volunteers, we simply cannot run the program.”
