Chillicothe & Ross County — Although Memorial Day weekend is considered the start of summer, it does include a somber reflection of those who died in the service of their nation.
While the Feast of the Flowering Moon filled Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe, a ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park remembered a local man who died in WWII.
Bob Leach, the leader of many local veterans activities, reflected on Huntington Township boy Robert D. Riley on his 200th birthday. He was mortally wounded in France and died in 1944.
Leach also lists the traditional ceremonies in several cemeteries in Chillicothe and Ross County on Memorial Day, where the Veterans Honor Guard will fire three volleys in salute of the honored dead. Hear that at 6:30 in the video, and also see also the list below.
Monday’s ceremonies start in Grandview Cemetery at 9am, where Civil War re-enactors will fire a musket salute. Ceremonies will end at 1pm in a small cemetery near the Ross County Fairgrounds.
