COLUMBUS, OH (May 4, 2025) — Motorists traveling through downtown Columbus should prepare for multiple ramp closures and detours this week as construction on the I-70/I-71 “Downtown Ramp Up” project continues. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced a series of temporary and permanent closures that will affect access to and from key interstates and surface streets.
New Temporary Closures (Weather Permitting):
I-70 Eastbound to I-71 Southbound Ramp:
Closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 1 and Sunday, May 4.
Detour: I-670 East → I-71 South → I-70 West → I-71 South
Mound Street Ramp to I-70 Eastbound:
Closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, May 1.
Detour: Mound St. → Central Ave. → Broad St. → I-70 West → Hague Ave. → Fisher Rd. → I-70
Rich/Town Street Ramp to SR 315 Southbound:
Closed from 9 p.m. Friday, May 2 to 12 p.m. Sunday, May 4.
Detour: SR 315 North → I-670 East → I-71 South → I-70 West → I-71 South
SR 315 Southbound at I-70:
Closed 11 p.m. Friday, May 2 to 12 p.m. Sunday, May 4.
Detour: SR 315 North → I-670 East → I-71 South → I-70 West → I-71 South
I-71 Northbound to I-70 Westbound Ramp:
Closed overnight 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 4.
Detour: I-270 West → I-70 West
SR 315 Northbound at I-70:
Closed 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 4.
Detour: I-70 East/I-71 North → I-71 North → I-670 West → SR 315 North
3rd Street Ramp to I-70 Westbound:
Closed overnight 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 6.
Detour: Mound St. → I-70 West
Continuing Impacts:
SR 315 Southbound Ramp to I-70 Eastbound remains closed through multiple years for reconstruction (since May 19, 2024).
Detour: I-670 East → I-71 South → I-70 East
I-70 Eastbound Exit to Front St. permanently closed since June 17, 2022 for a new ramp project.
Detour: I-70 East → Livingston Ave. → 4th St. → Mound St. → High St. or Front St.
W. Fulton Street, between Short St. and Ludlow St., remains permanently closed since June 2022.
Livingston Ave. is closed to through traffic at City Park Ave. until Summer 2025.
Front St. Bridge over I-70 remains closed for replacement until Spring 2025.
Detour: W. Sycamore St. → High St. → Mound St. or Main St. → High St. → Sycamore St.
Souder Avenue, between Harmon Ave. and Thomas Ave., is closed for bridge work until May 2025.
Detour: Mound St. → Glenwood Ave. → Sullivant Ave. → Souder Ave.
