PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Fishermen and Experts are shocked with the explosion of the Walleye population in Lake Erie, but no one is really complaining.

In the late 1960’s Ohio Fish and Wildlife actually stopped Walleye fishing in the lake because of low populations and fear of losing most of the population of the sport fish would push tourism away.

Well that fear is at a end, and Experts are in shock the number caught in the US waters of Lake Erie nearly increased from 417,000 in 2011 to almost 2 million in 2018. Fisheries doesn’t know what has happened to increase numbers so sharply but they said its a good thing. Since the Walleye state sport fishing industry is a $800 million dollar benefit to the local lake Erie region.
