UPDATE: Two-Vehicle Injury Crash on US-23, One in Critical Condition

Chillicothe – The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle injury crash that occurred on US23 near milepost 6, in Scioto Township, Ross County, Ohio.


On March 27, 2021, at approximately 7:56 P.M., a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by Ashley Burton, 23, of Chillicothe, Ohio and passengers, Jalen Mischal, 25, and a three -year old juvenile was traveling northbound on US-23 near Trego Creek Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Joseph Helton, 58, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and passenger, Eva Smith, 29, failed to yield from the stop sign as it was eastbound, crossing US 23 when it was struck by Mrs. Burton’s vehicle.


Eva Smith was transported by Huntington Township EMS to Adena Regional Medical Center and later flown to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Joseph Helton was transported to Adena Medical Center by Scioto Township EMS for non-life-threatening injuries. Ashley Burton, Jalen Mischal and the juvenile were all transported to Adena Medical Center by Green Township EMS as a precaution.


The Scioto Township Fire Department & EMS, Huntington Township Fire Department & EMS, Green Township EMS and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.


Motorists are reminded to wear their safety belts and drive sober.
