FAYETTE – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the murder of a 20-year-old female that occurred at the Pine Tree Apartment complex located on Joanne Drive in northeast Fayette County. The incident was reported on Monday evening at 6:01 p.m.

According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, his office received a call indicating that a male had reportedly shot a female at the rear of the apartment buildings on Joanne Drive. The initial call reported that the assailant was still in possession of the firearm and remained in the area. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a male exiting the front of an apartment in building 16 on Joanne Drive and learned that he was the alleged shooter. The male, identified as Joseph A. Brown, age 21 of Washington Court House was detained by deputies. As additional deputies and detectives from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrived, the area was searched and a female victim, identified as Lilliana M. Null, age 20 of Cincinnati, Ohio was located in the rear yard behind building 15 on Joanne Drive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Fayette County EMS responded to the scene but were unable to find signs of life. Null was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. A witness inside the Null vehicle and also the infant child of Brown and Null was unharmed in the incident.

As detectives continue their investigation, preliminary information received in the investigation indicates that Brown and Null recently separated and that Null was reportedly bringing their infant child to the residence for visitation. Custody of the child has been relinquished to Fayette County Children’s Services for further disposition. Also responding to the scene were members of the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office.

Brown was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he is being charged with Aggravated Murder in connection to the death of Lilliana Null. Brown will appear for arraignment before the Washington Court House Municipal Court on Tuesday.
