Tootsie Fruit Chews Lead to Arrest of Burglary Suspect

SCIOTO – Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announces that his 911 telecommunication center received a call on Tuesday February 4, 2020 from the resident located at 306 E Clayton court stating that someone had broken into her apartment.
Captain John W. Murphy stated a deputy responded to this location and observed that someone had made entry through a window. Upon further investigation the deputy was able to determine that several items were missing to include tootsie fruit chews, jewelry, cash, pillow case from the bed and a camera was missing from inside this apartment valued over $5000. During this investigation the deputy was able to identify a possible suspect that was seen in the area and obtain information that he has been staying with a neighbor.
A deputy responded 313 B Clayton Court and the resident opened the door and was very cooperative and advised that the suspect had been staying with them for a few nights and he was inside the apartment. The suspect was detained without incident and while searching the bedroom he was staying in, the deputy observed the tootsie fruit chews and pillow case which resulted in the recovery of the stolen property.
Arrested was Kenneth Carver age 55 of 1120 A Mount Hope Otway, Carver has been charged with one count of burglary a felony of the 2nd degree. Carver is being held in the Scioto County jail on a $15,000 bond and will appear back in Portsmouth Municipal Court on a later date.
This is an ongoing investigation that could result in more charges being presented to the Scioto County Grand jury on a later date. Murphy stated that this is still an ongoing investigation if anyone has any information, they should contact Deputy Daniel Thompson @ 740-354-7566
