Richard E. Conrad, 97, passed away on one of his favorite special days to celebrate the love of his life, his wife of 75 years, Roma, always with a bouquet of yellow roses (although her favorite color was pink, the girls never had the heart to tell him otherwise).  Richard passed away peacefully at Logan Elm Health Care on February 14, 2018.  Richard or Dick is affectionately known as “The Potato Chip Man” having worked most of his career with Dean’s Potato Chip Company and later with Dan Dee Company serving as the delivery truck driver.  He could whip that truck into any parking place no matter how small.  He was a quiet man but anyone who met him loved him.  He spent every day during the week at Berger Hospital having his coffee and a cookie from “the cookie lady”, Jo, and he was a fixture in the main floor waiting room with “his” table, speaking to everyone who wondered by, doctors, nurses, staff, didn’t matter who you were.  You would get the shoulder raise, the palms up gester and a nod of the head, “hanging in there.”  Richard was a WWII veteran serving in England from 1942 to 1946.  He served in the Army Air Corp which later became the U.S. Air Force.

He worked at the Army Air Corp repairing planes damaged in the war.  He was a member of the Pickaway Senior Center and a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ in Christian Union.  He and Roma were among the founding members of the Campus Church which now serves as Ohio Christian University’s chapel.  Richard was born July 13, 1920.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Nellie Conrad; wife, Roma Peters Conrad and granddaughter, Courtney Leigh Eitel.  Richard is survived by his daughters, Marty (Roger) Eitel, Linda (Glenn) Reeser and foster daughter, Karen (Billy) Huffman.  He is also survived by grandchildren, Erin (Dan) Reuter, Tracy (Matt Witter) Reeser, Tara (Jonathan Bodomer) Reeser, Todd (Valorie) Huffman and Marcus (Tracy) Huffman.  Also surviving are great grandchildren JD and Brady Reuter, Austin (Salena) Huffman, Michaella (David) Delacio, Evan Huffman and soon to be great-great grandfather.

Funeral services for Richard will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with Pastor Jay Neff officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wellman Funeral Home.  Burial will be held at Forest Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Berger Hospice, 1170 North Court St., Suite B, Circleville, OH  43113 or Partners for Paws, P.O. Box 282, Circleville, OH  43113.  The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of Berger Hospital, ICU and the staff and nurses at Logan Elm Health Care for their excellent care of Richard.  Online condolences may be made at www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
