Adra L. Hoplite, 96, of Amanda, passed away on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at Fairfield Medical Center.

He was born May 25, 1919, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and was the son of the late John and Mary (Newell) Hoplite.

Adra was a member of Cedar Hill Calvary United Methodist Church, a life-long farmer and formerly employed by Amanda Grain and Dupler Feed and Grain in Carroll.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Gwendolene (Kull) Hoplite; daughters, Shirley (Jimmie) Smith and Elva (Jerry) Shasteen, both of Amanda; grandchildren, Rodney (Shelli) Smith, Chris (Robin) Smith, Phil (Jennifer) Smith, Dawn (Dave) Steinberg, Dana Anderson and Mindy (Sean) Pickrell; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Pastors Terry Borah and Connie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like contributions made to Cedar Hill Calvary United Methodist Church in Adra’s memory.
