Vina B. Hedges

Vina Belle Hedges, 97, of Westminster, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at Lorien Taneytown, Maryland.

Born Feb. 10, 1918, in Blakeley, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James William Stewart and Melvina Mullins.

She was the wife of the late Clifton Wright Hedges of Westminster, who died Jan. 18, 2012, at the age of 94. They were married on April 16, 1938, in Forestville, Prince Georges, Maryland.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Roseanne Hedges of Westminster, Maryland; two grandchildren, Garrett C. Hedges of Loveland, Ohio, and Kara Sasse of Washington D.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Abbygael, Gabrielle and Everett Hedges and Finn and Else Sasse. She is also survived by sisters, Marjorie Waddick of Kingston and Dorothy Shanks of Clearwater, Florida; and brother, Charles Stewart of Fairfax, Virginia.

She was predeceased by brothers, Romuless Stewart and Jack Stewart; and sisters, Thelda Tretecoste and Irissa Nicholson.

Vina was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts. Specifically, she excelled in cake decorations, decoupage, needlework and rug braiding. She enjoyed telling stories of her early childhood and often spoke of her experiences living and surviving in the rural mountain areas of West Virginia and Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston, with Rev. Barry Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service Friday at Hill’s.
