OCU joins statewide collaboration offering private college visits

Ohio Christian University recently announced the university is joining a statewide collaboration among Ohio’s private colleges and universities. This historic collaboration begins with a new summer program designed to allow students and their families to visit up to four private schools over two days, July 13 and 14.

Ohio’s Independent College Visit Days are aimed at helping families understand how affordable a private college education can be. The days also highlight other benefits of attending a private college such as a higher four-year graduation rate and lower default rate on student loans.

“This is an unprecedented effort and Ohio Christian University is proud to be a part of it,” said Mark A. Smith, OCU president. “We know that the quality of the experience that students have at private universities like ours proves transformational for students. We also know that many families fear they can’t afford private higher education. Ohio Christian University wants to tell Ohio’s families–You Can!”

Families visiting two participating schools during the official Ohio Independent College Visit Days July 13 and 14 who document their visits on Instagram using #YOUCANVisitDays will be entered to win one of five $1,000 YouCan Awards.

Ohio joins a select number of states that are joining forces with competing peers to highlight access and affordability at private universities. Presidents and vice presidents of enrollment management at Ohio’s private institutions started this conversation a little less than a year ago in partnership with Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AICUO); leaders agreed that it was time to tell the story of affordability.

“Access and affordability is on our mind every day,” said Michael Egenreider, vice president for enrollment management/marketing & customer service. “We want families to understand the real cost of attending our schools. We also want them to understand the benefits, like smaller classes and personal attention, that set a private education apart.”

As one of the nation’s fastest growing universities, Ohio Christian University has approximately 4,000 students enrolled in traditional residential, online, and adult programs. OCU promotes a Christian worldview in all of its academic disciplines, developing graduates that meet the needs of the community, workforce, and Church. OCU offers full-featured programs with many opportunities for internships, study abroad, as well as several other student-centered learning opportunities, all while working to keep costs down for students. OCU prepares students to serve effectively in the church and society by providing a holistic, Christ-centered, biblically integrated education.
