WALNUT TOWNSHIP – Firefighters from seven departments battled a blaze on Cromley Road early Sunday morning, managing to contain most of the damage to the garage area where it began.

Sharon and Roger Neil, the homeowners at 16861 Cromley Road, were reportedly alerted by smoke detectors about 12:08 a.m. Sunday and found their garage fully engulfed by flames, according to Captain Shawn Davidson, Harrison Township Fire Department.

The three people in the home made it out safely and called 911, bringing in crews from Harrison Township, Pickaway Township, Circleville, Scioto Township, Williamsport, Rickenbacker and Clearcreek, Davidson said. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and the Box65 auxiliary unit also responded to the scene.

“They contained the damage to the garage and the attic space above the garage,” Davidson said. “It got into the kitchen ceiling a little bit, but they were able to save the rest of the house.”

Davidson said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
