Chalk artists decorate downtown sidewalks on First Friday

CIRCLEVILLE – The Circleville Downtown Business Association celebrated its First Friday event for June last week with “Chalk It Up,” a sidewalk chalk art contest.

Winners in the business category were Tuscan Table by Ashlee Dickson, first place; Trixie Kawasaki, second place; and Roundtown Players by Jenny Rhoads, third place.

Winners in the family category were Haley and Mackenzie Robinette, first place; Bobbi Wolfe, second place; and Kaitlyn, Isaal and James Esteph, third place.

Winners in the grade 6-8 category were Rachel Esteph, first place; Emma Beavers, second place; and Cecilia DeGarmo, third place.

In the grade 9-12 category, winners were Jackie Richardson, first place; Katelyn Polacek, second place; and Madison Salyers, third place.

Winners in the adult/college category were Heath Bennett, first place; Louisa Heyer, second place; and Gina Lovelace, third place.

Louisa Heyer also took home the award for Best of Show.

Sue Lumley, DBA president, said about 35 participants registered for the event, ranging from age 4 to adult.

The artwork was then judged by Todd Decker, Michelle Jones and Dannie Sutherland, all professional Ohio artists.

Prizes included medallions and a ribbon for Best of Show, as well as bragging rights among the local art scene.

“It’s great to see so many participants of all ages decorating our downtown,” said Nicole Mitchell, DBA vice president.
