The Teays Valley Educational Foundation recently awarded a $1,250 grant to Teays Valley elementary guidance counselor Niki Shaner to fund PBIS assemblies at Ashville and Walnut Elementary Schools in August.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for students to achieve social, emotional and academic success.

“Being strong is not about muscles or physical strength; it is about who you are as person with strong character who makes good personal choices,” Shaner said. “Ashville and Walnut Elementary Schools will kick off the new school year with an assembly called STRONG. The assembly supports our PBIS initiative, which promotes positive behavior school wide. Thank you to the Educational Foundation for supporting these assemblies.”
