Dorothy J. Scanlan, 79, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Crestview Nursing Home.

She was born on May 24, 1937, in Columbus, to the late Virgil and Mary Magdalene (Connor) Stout.

Dorothy was a devoted mother, a true friend and a woman of great faith.

Later in life, she worked as an LPN at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and was active in many ministries at the church. Dorothy was a member of the Olivedale Senior Center, and was a former active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Circleville.

Dorothy is survived by her children, John Scanlan, Jerry (Janet) Scanlan, Joe (Diana) Scanlan, Jeff Scanlan, Kathy (David) Cardwell, Mike Scanlan, Greg (Brad) Scanlan and Steve (Nicole) Scanlan; grandchildren, Leah (Matt) Hopke, Bethany (Andrew) Jelinek, Jenna Scanlan, Abby Lundrigan and Alex Lundrigan; brother, Jack Stout; sister, Betty (Tom) Calton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Scanlan; parents; grandson, Jake Scanlan; brothers, Joe, Bill, John, Tom and Lawrence Stout; and sisters, Mary Margaret Alspaugh, Martha Weiser, Patricia Stout, Catherine Smith and Sue Morrow.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church with Fr. Craig Eilerman as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Circleville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Sheridan Funeral Home, Lancaster, with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name can be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
