CIRCLEVILLE – A local man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident Wednesday on Huston Street.

Gregory W. Kelly Jr., 23, of Circleville, was taken into custody Friday and charged with felonious assault and improper discharge of a firearm into a habitation, which is also a felony.

He is currently being held in the Pickaway County Jail and is expected to appear next week for an initial hearing in Circleville Municipal Court.

Kelly is one of two people detained immediately following the shooting incident at 209 Huston Street about 3:21 p.m. Wednesday. According to Sgt. Robert Chapman, bullet holes were discovered in the residence and handguns were recovered at the scene.

Chapman said the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available in the coming days.

According to reports, officers responding to the scene on Wednesday were directed by witnesses to a vacant lot at the old Jefferson Smurfit plant, where they said the people responsible were running across the field.

Officers located Kelly and another individual hiding in the grass near U.S. Route 23, and they were detained but later released. Kelly is the only one facing charges in the shooting incident at this time.
