Sydnee Roese

Sydnee Roese has high goals of making a difference in the world, and she is already on her way.

Sydnee, a senior at Teays Valley High School, has accomplished much in academics, athletics and community service.

In the classroom, Sydnee was awarded the Honda/Ohio Math Medal Award in November; attended the Yale University Leadership Summit in July; was a Buckeye Girls State representative in June; and was inducted into the National Honor Society in 2013.

In the sports arena, Sydnee was on the Cross Country and track teams since 2011 and the basketball team for the 2011-2012 season.

In the community, Sydnee has been involved in X-Factor Student Ministries, Ladies in Faith Together and Upward Basketball.

She can now add to her accomplishments being selected as the Pickaway County recipient of the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award, awarded by each county Educational Service Center.

Named in honor of Walter, a former longtime state superintendent of public instruction, the award was established in 1989 by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association to promote and recognize outstanding student leaders for their academic achievement and service to their schools and communities.

Eligible applicants must be a high school senior enrolled in a public school within an ESC’s service region. Recipients were required to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement as indicated by high school grades, test scores, school activities and awards.

Sydnee has been accepted to Miami University and Ohio State University and plans to study biomedical engineering and eventually obtain a doctorate in prosthetics and orthotics.

While she won’t start school until the fall, she’ll put her desire to help others to work this summer when she travels to the Dominican Republic to provide prosthetics to people who are unable to afford them.

Sydnee wrote in an essay about her goals that she wants to make a difference in the world.

I have no doubt that she will.
