CIRCLEVILLE – Lightning is the suspected culprit in a fire that destroyed a storage barn Thursday on Walnut Creek Pike.

Susan Little, the homeowner at 2329 Walnut Creek Pike, said her husband, Craig, and son, Marc Grossnickle, were at home making a video when the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday.

“On the video, you can hear the boom, and all the lights in the house went out,” she said.

When they looked out the window, she said they realized the storage barn was on fire.

Little said the barn was used to store lawnmowers and a few pieces of furniture. She said she is grateful the storm struck the barn and not the house nearby.

Dennis Zwayer, Pickaway Township Fire Department, said the structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene, and the blaze was immediately contained.

Pickaway Township was assisted at the scene by the Harrison Township and Clearcreek Township fire departments, along with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
