Gene Roger Donohoe Sr., 87, of Washington Court House, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 26, 1928, near Atlanta in Pickaway County, to George Vincent and Zelma Faye Bryant Donohoe.

Following his graduation from Atlanta High School in 1946, he enlisted into the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Thompson in the south Pacific during World War II.

He was a retired farmer. Gene was a faithful member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church for many years and had served as trustee and on numerous church committees. He was a member of Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion; had served on the Union Township Zoning Board; and was formerly a 4-H advisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Richard and Marcus Dale Donohoe; and a sister, Portia Keaton.

Gene is survived by his loving and faithful wife, the former Mildred Furniss, whom he married May 14, 1949; two sons, Roger Donohoe and Rob Donohoe and his wife, Diana, all of Mount Sterling; four grandchildren, Ryan Donohoe and his wife, Heather, Marcus Donohoe and his wife, Terra, Tina Mason and Michelle Williams and her husband, Tom; eight great-grandchildren; and his twin sister, Janice L. Mouser of Williamsport.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Sugar Creek Baptist Church with the Mike Henry, minister at the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
