Howard D. “Denny” Mowrey, 79, of Rarden, died unexpectedly at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 22, 2015, at OSU Wexner Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 27, 1935, in Centerfield, to the late William C. and Ruth C. Stoops Mowrey.

In March of 1993, he married the former Shirley A. Sams, who survives. Also surviving children, Catherine Frazer of Hillsboro, Howard (Michele) Mowrey Jr. of Hillsboro, Jennifer Mowrey Gambill of Xenia, Brian Mowrey and companion Dee Johnson of Xenia and Steve (Heather) Mowrey of Bainbridge; step-children, Ronnie Burton, Debbie (Danny) Kiser, Mary Jane Stevens, Rick (Gena) Burton, Connie (John) Barker and Larry Burton, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Cathy (Ed) Frazier of Ashland, Kentucky, and Linda Howell of Perry, Florida; a brother, Frederick (Sandy) Mowrey of Chillicothe; sisters, Betty Fink, Nina Graves and Violet Marie Mowrey, all of Chillicothe, and Barbara (Ward) Conley of Circleville; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, John C. and Glenn William Mowrey; and sisters, Connie Lynn Mowrey and Alberta “Maggie” Betts.

Howard retired from General Motors Company in Dayton. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at the Ware Funeral Home, Chillicothe, with Pastor Lou Watson officiating. There will be no calling hours.
