Pickaway Correctional Nurse Dies as Staff Positive Cases Grow in Pickaway Institutions

ORIENT – A nurse that worked in the Pickaway Correctional Institute died Sunday night due to complications from COVID-19 virus according to spokesperson at the jail, and other staff members have been slowly rising dealing with the outbreak in Pickaway County Jails.



As of monday April 27, PCI is reporting 1525 inmates that have COVID-19, 11 confirmed deaths of the virus and two deaths of inmates that are suspected. 81 staff members are infected and one staff death. CRC a sister institution on the same grounds is reporting 57 positive cases of the virus, and 11 staff members testing positive.

Pickaway County Health is reporting as of 2:00 p.m. today, Monday, April 27, 2020 there are a total of 16,325 COVID-19 cases in Ohio and 753 deaths. Currently there are 1,702 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Pickaway County, 1,635 being inmates, leaving 67 local residents who have tested positive. There are a total of 39 hospitalizations, 34 being inmates, and 10 on ventilators, 8 being inmates. At this time there are a total of 11 deaths, 10 being inmates, 1 being a local resident. There are also 58 recovered at this time and 112 negative test results, not including inmates.

This is the first staff member that has died in Pickaway from the virus and second overall in the states prison staff.
