Perry County OH- SR93 Single Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Teen Passenger

Salt Lick Township – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash on SR93 at milepost 5 just outside of Shawnee in Perry County. The crash occurred on January 15, 2021 at approximately 05:14 PM.

Jeffrey R. Hook, age 24, of Logan was traveling southbound on SR93 in a black 2006 Hyundai Tuscon when he drove off the right side of the roadway, struck an tree, and overturned. Mr. Hook was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. Mr. Hook suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

The right front passenger, Isaac R. Hook, age 18, of Athens also suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the scene. Mr. Hook was not wearing his seatbelt.

The right rear passenger was a 14 year old juvenile. The juvenile was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The juvenile died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The juvenile was transported from the scene to Winegardener Funeral Home in New Lexington.

Troopers from the Lancaster Post of the Highway Patrol are investigating the crash. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Members of the Perry County Coroner’s Office, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, New Lexington Fire Department, Shawnee Fire Department, and Somerset Police Department were on scene. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
