COLUMBUS—Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) announced the unanimous passage of legislation providing several measures of emergency relief for Ohio’s families, schools, businesses and communities.
“The safety, health and wellbeing of all Ohioans is our highest priority. I greatly appreciate the steadfast leadership of Governor DeWine during this crisis, and the bill the Ohio Senate passed unanimously today provides essential emergency relief,” said Obhof, who co-sponsored the bill. “I’d like to thank my colleagues, both Democrat and Republican, who worked diligently to pass this bill quickly on behalf of Ohioans everywhere.”
This temporary law will be in place until the Governor’s emergency order is rescinded or until December 1, 2020, whichever happens first.
The relief measures include ensuring water supplies will not be cut off, removing the barriers to unemployment compensation, waiving standardized testing for students as well as report cards, allowing seniors to graduate as long as they were on track to do so, continuity of student lunch programs and extends certain license expiration dates.
The bill also will extend voting for Ohio’s Primary Election, absentee voting by mail will now need to be done by April 28th, 2020.
Another item mentioned in the bill is that the deadline for filing your Ohio taxes will be pushed back to July 15, 2020.
